BMG Building Initiative Update
|
Dear Friends,
The Building Committee of Boston Meditation Group would like to provide an update of our efforts to acquire a permanent center. Thank you for your continuing interest, prayers, positive thinking and financial support especially during these challenging times. Recently the Washington, DC group acquired a new center, so despite the challenges it is possible!
Your response to our January 2009 appeal was exceptional — we now have approximately $450,000 in the Boston Building Account at Self-Realization Fellowship!
As the snow and ice disappeared we rejuvenated our property search and we’re now screening a 6000-square foot commercial property on the Charles River, Waltham. We will soon have two real estate agents looking for commercial property. We continue to watch the Our Lady of Mercy property in Belmont which is under agreement but appears stalled; the Parish Hall and Parking Lot parcels would meet all of our needs. The Archdiocese does not want to break up the five parcels but we remain hopeful.
We encourage you to help us find our new home. The criteria are here. While a property may not meet all criteria, it should meet many. These criteria are most important: availability of parking, size of area for a chapel, and accessibility. Our search area is Waltham, Belmont and Watertown but properties nearby will be considered. If you discover a promising property, please contact the Building Committee.
Our process is: the Building Committee first screens the property for concurrence with our Criteria; promising properties are then reviewed by the Managing Council and BMG members; we then hold a meeting at which a vote is taken; for properties receiving at least 85% support, a draft offer is prepared and inspections are conducted; costs of repair and other factors are then considered; throughout this process, SRF is consulted (SRF will own the property); if SRF approves, we purchase the property.
Enthusiasm Event: On Saturday, June 20th from 9:45 am to noon we’ll have our 3rd annual Plum Island Outing near the spot where Paramahansa Yogananda and Dr. Lewis meditated in 1921. Please park in the lot at the northern end of Northern Boulevard, Plum Island. We will proceed together to the meditation spot at 9:45 am. Dress in layers, the temperature at this location is unpredictable. Please watch this site for more information as the date approaches.
Please continue your prayers and good wishes for the success of this project, and join us in the search for our new home!
