The Building Committee of Boston Meditation Group will host an Open House at the home of Ms. Sandy Gray, 9 Lester Terrace, Somerville, MA, on Saturday, April 19. This is the former home of Sister Yogamata, the first SRF monastic from Boston. Paramahansa Yogananda spent many hours at the home during his early years in Boston. Several events of note happened here, such as the “Strawberry Prophecy” described in Autobiography of a Yogi. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP.

4:00 pmInformal social on the first floor. Refreshments will be provided. You may visit the second floor room where Master held the first flower ceremony in the U.S. in 1922.
5:00Welcome and status report of the BMG Building Project.
5:10Summary of important events at 9 Lester Terrace and new research on the life of Sister Yogamata.
5:30Reading of an Emerson poem on the sea which has some interesting SRF history.
5:40Audio segments from Dr. Minott Lewis, a former Vice President of SRF and Somerville neighbor of Sister Yogamata.
5:55Brief meditation with kirtan chanting. We will play a chant written by Doctor Lewis.
6:30Adjourn

There is no charge. We suggest you use Google Maps for the best map and directions to 9 Lester Terrace, Somerville, MA. It is a short walk from the Davis Square Red Line MBTA stop (two stops from Harvard Square). There is some on-street parking but plenty of public parking in Davis Square. If you drive, you may wish to allow 10 minutes to find parking and make your way to Lester Terrace.
